Sweet Retirement

Our "old" digital camera has just gone into retirement. "Cammy" plans on getting some reading done (pictured here with Luther's Ninety-five Theses), spending more time with her 128mb SD card, take up chess and possibly travel.

For our part, Cara and I are going to miss replacing spent batteries that were completely charged only five minutes before. We're also going to pine for the minutes (which felt like days) that Cammy would spend "processing", unable to take another picture. Her grainy video will still warm our hearts (or at least our blood) and bring tears (of frustration) to our eyes. We're not sure how were going to cope with not having to download media to the computer every few minutes because she ran out of storage space...

Fond farewell.

That's hilarious! I have a vague memory of Josh's old camera being put to rest - buried, was it? Anyway, looks like your camera will have a more productive retirement.

What's the replacement going to be? When?

We just got the replacement. It's a canon SD700. The same camera that Mom and Dad just got I believe. So far though Josh, we haven't been able to get as good pictures as you do, so we're really looking forward to some tips on how to get the most out of it.

No secret really. The keys are 1) steady arms (hold breath while 'snapping'), 2) Crop pictures close (what do people really need to see - none of my pictures are uncropped) and 3) Use Picasa2 to crop and very occasionally warm up a picture or add a subtle 'touch', depending on the intended message. But I would more than happy to sit down and chat about pictures when we see you at Christmas. And I'm keen to see the SD700. I'm green with envy!

Oh, and I avoid the flash like the plague! I almost never use it. Thanks for asking - nice complement.
