So this is how our Gerbils live. Not quite the lap of luxury, but pretty darn close. The cages are connected by a tube and there are openings which can be used for add-ons in the future. It's pretty cool.
Follow our little munchkins as they play and grow and pose for cute pictures.

I think gerbils are great! I would love to hear how Michaela responds to them. Does she pick them up and hold them? Does she spend lots of time watching them? Is she obsessed with them? How did you decide to get them - did Michaela help pick them out? Those are two lucky gerbils to have such a nice habitat, and to have each other for company!
Thanks Mom, nice to hear some pro-gerbil sentiment. I remember my childhood gerbils very fondly, and am so please to be sharing that with Missie now. Michaela adores her gerbils. They are still very young, so I don't let her hold them often, usually only twice a day for a couple of minutes. They are still a little shy and nervous, but that will soon change when they get a little older and more used to us. She spends lots of time watching them and talking to them. As for your question as to whether she picked them out, unfortunately, no. There were only four, all sisters, and all exactly the same, black. We ended up getting lucky though. We chose one that has a tiny bit of white on the tips of her front feet, and the other one doesn't. So at least we can tell them apart. And lastly, we decided to get them after much thought and research. We looked into rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, etc... And yet we kept coming back to gerbils. They're smarter and less likely to bite then hamsters, and cheaper and easier to care for then rabbits, rats and guinea pigs. And of course our ultimate motive has been fulfilled....
Michaela spends so much time watching the gerbils that she has taken a sabbatical from torturing the cats.
So Mom, and name ideas!?
O.K. I've been thinking about it, and finally I've come up with an idea. You could call them Geraldine and Wilhelmina. Well, that's a mouthful for a 2-year-old, so you could shorten it to Gerry and Billy, or how about Ger and Bill. So glad to hear that Michaela loves them so much! What a terrific idea for our little creature-lover, so have little creatures of her own!
Great idea Mom! Very original!
